Strategy for Justice: Make it Appear Fair

When those in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago and other cities where the Black community flourishes believe an injustice has taken place, they'll join in spirit to call out for justice.

Black national leaders make bold statements and are the first ones to participate in the large demonstrations crying out for justice or demanding it.

But not in Las Vegas, where the Black community appears to be non-existent; the Black media keep silent and the Black community activists and so-called leaders are too busy fraternizing with their White counterparts and playing politics with the same.

Voters Must Evaluate Sen. Harry Reid's Job

Editorials - Our Point Of View

We consider it very important for the people of Nevada to realize that we have only the utmost of good intentions when we endeavor to open their eyes to the political scene.

We realize we may have been a little heavy-handed in telling our readers our opinion of Harry Reid and why we believe that it is time for the Senator to go back to Searchlight and stay there.

We may even have repeated some words a little bit too often, but we didn't do that to get on anyone's nerves or cause anyone to tire of reading us; we did it and do it because we believe the voters in Nevada need to be made aware that it is time for a change and that change needs to start in the Nevada U.S. Senate seat.

We're Victims of a Government Running Amok

Editorials - Our Point Of View

So many issues, so little space. The limited scope of publishing a weekly newspaper causes a hardship on the management. Yep, we're victims. Victims of a government run amok. We are promised the right to freedom of speech by our Constitution. And the governments at all levels keep reminding us of that fact. They fail to tell us the cost of this “free” speech.

First, we must purchase from the government a business “license.” And in the City of Las Vegas, we must pay a graduated fee, a method taken directly from the communist manifesto. A license, according to Black's Law Dictionary, is the right to do something that would otherwise be illegal. So the freedom of the press is limited by the government's requirement that we purchase a business license. And pay a fee. That means we must pay the government to exercise our right to freedom of speech, or of the press. We must pay a fee for using the sidewalks that we own to place our distribution racks for the public to pick up our newspaper. It is illegal, so we were told, for a political candidate to have advertising on our racks. Of course, he was running against the incumbent sheriff.

Sen. Reid may not always be truthful

Editorials - Our Point Of View

“Thou shalt not bear false witness.” That is one of the Ten Commandments as laid out in Exodus in the Holy Bible. In today's world it is the least obeyed of the Commandments, in our opinion. The question arises now: Who hasn't lied? If you told your children that Santa or the tooth fairy gave them something, you lied. That is bearing false witness.

Do you think telling a half truth is a lie? Do you think that twisting another's words to misconstrue the true meaning of an utterance is a lie?

During the election cycle, we hear and read many things from candidates that cannot be believed. Some of these candidates are of the strict Mormon Religion. Should we assume that all Mormons lie? I don't think so. Ken Wegner is a Mormon, and a very believable fellow.

People need to know, It matters!

Editorials - Our Point Of View

I wonder where this country is going and what life has in store for us.

There is no longer any respect for the deceased: memorials in cemeteries are being vandalized, and sexual intercourse is even taking place on some loved one's final resting place. Doctors are ignoring the oath they took to save lives. In the name of monetary interests, many doctors are mistreating people. Nurses don't give a moment to the patients under their care, whether babies or seniors. Attorneys no longer care if their clients are going free or sent to death row. Prosecutors are sending innocent people to prison for the pleasure of adding another notch (name or number) to one of those little (good for nothing) plaques they get when off they go into private practice. That life in prison is nothing compared to the higher number that gets put on that plaque: “John Doe, Esq. won X amount of cases during his time with the District Attorney's office.” Of course they will then hang that useless plaque on the wall of their new office, impressing people with their trophy of a number of human lives, locked up, knocked down, and possibly killed.

For the money charged nowadays for funerals, funeral homes should at least have a couple of security guards protecting the premises. Some security guards claim they are afraid to be left alone, at night, in a cemetery. Afraid of whom? the spirits, or the criminals hanging around? But nobody is afraid to go to a cemetery to steal the copper vases from the graves to make money at the expense of the family of those who passed on before us.
